  • TrueAction Expands its Agency Services to Europe

    03.01.2010

TrueAction™, a GSI Commerce company (Nasdaq: GSIC), today announced the expansion of its portfolio into international markets with the redesign and launch of Peak Performance’s online store (http://www.peakperformance-store.com). Peak Performance is the largest sportswear outfitter in Sweden and one of the 11 fashion apparel brands of IC Companys, a worldwide designer and seller of men’s and women’s clothing.

The launch marks TrueAction’s first foray into international online commerce, an effort intended to complement its U.S. client portfolio. TrueAction leveraged Peak Performance’s history and reputation as the leading Swedish sportswear outfitter to imbue the newly redesigned site with the “expert friend” persona, giving customers a more fluid, friendly, and effortless online shopping experience. Other features of the new site include:

  • • Instant color switching of product at zoom-level view
  • • Embedded video content to leverage sponsorships
  • • Family page color swatching
  • • Horizontal family page layout
  • • Flexible layout to accommodate translation for localized global sites

“The redesign of Peak Performance’s shopping experience has been an excellent complement to one of our most successful brands,” said Jesper Arvidsson, e-commerce manager at IC Companys in Denmark. “General reaction has been very positive and we are excited to see that turn into more success for the channel.”

The Peak Performance shop redesign is in part based on the concept of reflex marketing, a term coined by TrueAction to describe the understanding of what turns users’ attentions into actions – actions that grow brands, drive revenue, and deepen relationships. Through the proper balance of TrueAction's strategy, visual design, measurement, media, technology, and usability services, the company has positioned itself as a comprehensive solution to a constantly evolving digital marketplace.

“Offline fashion brands and online commerce are now past their adolescence,” said Dorian Sweet, vice president and executive creative director of TrueAction. “Our goal was to extend Peak Performance’s brand equity through appropriate use of copy, functionality, and design to elevate their product promise and drive sales.”

  • gsi interactive Rebrands as TrueAction on the Philosophy of Reflex Marketing

    11.03.2009

GSI Commerce Inc. (Nasdaq: GSIC) today introduced TrueAction™, the new face of its full-service agency. Formerly known as gsi interactive℠, TrueAction has provided digital marketing and design solutions to industry-leading retailers and brands including the NFL, GNC, kate spade, and Christopher & Banks. The new moniker reflects the company's focus on offering innovative marketing solutions that have driven millions of dollars in e-commerce transactions.

TrueAction's new brand identity represents the collective knowledge of an agency built on understanding what turns users' attentions into actions – actions that can grow brands, drive revenue, and deepen relationships. Through the proper balance of TrueAction's strategy, visual design, measurement, media, technology, and usability services, the company has positioned itself as a comprehensive solution to a constantly evolving digital marketplace.

“TrueAction, as a brand, is all about forging new ways of understanding online consumers in order to maximize user satisfaction and client revenue. Reflex Marketing is our philosophy that all actions have a transactional value whether it be monetary, physical or emotional,” explains TrueAction president Nick Pahade. “It's about the combination of all disciplines into one true view of what users are doing and what is helping them accomplish their tasks.”

One TrueAction advancement is their state-of-the-art Usability Lab, a Reflex Marketing tool developed by noted user-research expert Michael Summers. Among many programs, the Usability Lab utilizes a live focus group where real consumers can provide detailed feedback on aspects including digital marketing, design, and functionality. The Usability Lab includes the latest eyetracking and remote testing technologies that allow TrueAction to help clients make decisions based on data not assumptions. Click here for a video of how the Usability Lab works.

“Understanding what makes someone 'truly' purchase anything is the key to growth. By working with brands in ways that range the emotional and transactional experience, we can understand why some ideas succeed and others don't - whether it's a big concept or a small tweak to a design,” said Dorian Sweet, TrueAction's vice president and executive creative director.

TrueAction's rebranding follows a period of strong organic and strategic growth including the recent opening of their New York City office. To complement their marketing services offering, GSI also acquired two outside firms in 2009; a web site design and marketing firm based in the San Francisco Bay area, Silverlign Group Inc., and Pepperjam, a full-service affiliate marketing network.

“TrueAction, in the past year, has been building a powerful agency model based on our e-commerce expertise and by hiring the best in the industry.” said Michael Rubin, CEO of GSI Commerce. “As GSI and its companies continue to grow and expand, TrueAction's solutions reinforce our commitment to driving more revenue for our client base.”

  • GSI Commerce Acquires Pepperjam

    09.01.2009

GSI Commerce Inc. (Nasdaq: GSIC), the leading provider of e-commerce and multichannel solutions, today announced it has acquired certain assets of the Pepperjam affiliate marketing network and the Pepperjam full-service, interactive marketing agency which specializes in search. The acquisition will expand the breadth and depth of GSI’s interactive marketing services capabilities and its reach into existing and new vertical markets. Pepperjam will benefit from GSI’s scale and market-leading position in e-commerce and marketing services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The acquisition of Pepperjam is a strategic extension of our marketing services business that we believe will enhance growth opportunities for both GSI and our clients," said Michael G. Rubin, chairman, president and CEO of GSI. "Affiliate marketing is a powerful interactive marketing tool. Last year, our affiliate marketing channel generated more than $100 million in sales for our clients. By owning our own affiliate network, we believe we can more rapidly drive innovation and service enhancements to our clients while also expanding our marketing services offering to a broader universe of prospective clients. We expect the affiliate business to represent an important opportunity over time."

According to independent firm Forrester Research Inc.'s April 2009 report, "Online Marketing Benchmarks For Internet Retailers,” online retailers spend 20 percent of their online advertising budgets on affiliate marketing and online marketplaces.

"GSI's entrance into the affiliate network business could provide online retailers with a powerful combination of integrated e-commerce and marketing services," said Bob O’Keefe, senior director of NFL Direct. "We’re excited about the acquisition and we believe that GSI will help grow our overall affiliate business by taking the Pepperjam network to the next level."

Pepperjam, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., has 48 employees and will operate as a separate business unit of gsi interactive℠, reporting to Nick Pahade, president of gsi interactive.

The Pepperjam network offers many innovative affiliate marketing features that represent key points of differentiation compared to other alternatives, including:

    • The Pepperjam Network Transparency System provides advertisers with the disclosure of important information, including reliable contact information, promotional methods, Web site(s), and marketing potential. The system allows advertisers to have more confidence in and more control over the affiliates Page 2 of 3 / GSI Commerce Acquires Pepperjam within their respective affiliate program and also empowers affiliates to build stronger, more profitable advertiser relationships.
    • Pepperjam’s premier product feed and store builder technology features products from hundreds of top Internet retailers and allows affiliates to build dynamic e-commerce storefronts in less than 30 seconds.
    • The ability for affiliates and advertisers to communicate with each other in real-time through a service called Pepperjam Chat™.
    • Source-level tracking and reporting, which is beneficial to search marketing and helps sophisticated affiliates that want to track commissions at the keyword level.
    • Pepperjam ADS, a widget that affiliates can use to serve customized contextual ads from one or more network advertisers concurrently.
    • A recruitment feature that enables clients to search for new affiliate recruits by categories, by status (pending, not joined), by transparency ranking and by method of promotion.

"This is a great fit for Pepperjam and the hundreds of clients and thousands of affiliates that we serve," said Kristopher B. Jones, president of Pepperjam. "We are teaming with the leading provider of e-commerce and marketing services which will provide us with strategic guidance and the opportunity to grow our affiliate network."

"Affiliate marketing is a proven and cost-effective channel for online retailers and marketers," said Pahade. "Pepperjam is a young and growing company with tremendous potential. In addition to the network, we are also excited that this acquisition expands our presence in agency services for affiliate marketing and search, areas where we already have a meaningful and growing business." Gridley & Company, a New York City-based boutique investment bank, provided GSI with advisory services on the deal.
